Last night while getting gas, I stopped in to the mini mart to get something to drink and I saw this product called Pepsi Next. I asked myself “What in the world is this?” and I saw the packaging that said “Real Cola Taste, 60% less sugar”. Even though it had less sugar, I thought I’d give it a try.
I have to say that it tastes alright, but it’s not a product for me. It also seems like we have a lot of other low calorie, less sugar colas like Diet Pepsi and Coke Zero. This also is not the first time Pepsi has tried a mid-calorie soda. In 1995, a product called Pepsi XL (which I never saw at my local 7-Eleven) that fizzled out and in 2004 with Pepsi Edge, which I do remember but don’t remember trying that also did not last long.
I do think this has potential of finding a base of consumers that may enjoy this based on taste alone, but Pepsi Next may be the next thing to come and go from store shelves just like other products before it like XL and Edge. It’s not bad, but it’s not good. It’s just Okay.
