It wasn’t an NHL game, but it was just as great. I went to Stockton to watch the Stockton Thunder (affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and Edmonton Oilers) host the Utah Grizzlies (affiliate of the Calgary Flames). I’m an Oilers fan so to see some of these guys before they become OIlers is pretty exciting, too. I went with a youth group chapter who I regularly see from another town and was thrilled they had me along.
Since I was already in the central valley,I would meet them there. Once we got settled in to our seats at Stockton Arena (a pretty nice venue if you ask me), we saw some competitive hockey and more importantly, some really neat fights. The fights in the ECHL are just as awesome,if not better, than the fights in the NHL. The crowd was very into that, cheers of joy would erupt when a fight broke out and the boos were there when the officials broke it up. The best fight probably came after the second period ended. I’d say every player who was on the ice got into that one.
The Thunder and Grizzlies played a very competitive game which was on the brink of going into overtime, but Stockton held on to win 3-2 and Thunder fans went home happy.
During the game, I texted my brother that he,his girlfriend, and myself should get to a game because it’s just too much fun. Everyone kept telling me how hockey is much better to watch in person and they are right on the money. I definitely plan on going to see more hockey, in Stockton and hopefully in San Jose, too. I am thinking March 6 when the Oilers come to HP Pavilion would be a great time to see a game, don’t you?
I also want to thank Elk Grove DeMolay for having me along for the ride, I really appreciate it. What a great event it was. I had fun and I know you guys did, too!
