Well the year is coming to a close and I have to say it’s actually been quite the interesting year. A lot of great things happened, a lot of not so great things happened, but overall 2010 is what I think a year on the brink of an even better one on the way in the form of 2011.
I have to say, I am an incredibly lucky guy to have so many wonderful friends and it showed on the night of February 12 when a good friend of mine surprised me with a great party with some friends I hadn’t seen in a while and some that I’d seen not too long ago. It was so wonderful that they were able to come out and be with me for my birthday. I may be just a small part of their lives, and that’s fine, but they’re a huge part of mine.
I also got to see a few old friends who I haven’t seen in a while. Often times I would get together with them somewhere and just talk about what’s happened since the last time we saw one another, what we were doing now, and other stuff. And with one instance, my friend Amy, who I had known since elementary school, she and I had pretty much picked up where we left off. I could’ve spent all day talking with her, she’s so great!
And as any sports geek does during the year, I went to a few sporting events this year. I went to a Kings game with my wonderful grandmother who loves this team even when they’re not so good. I also saw a RiverCats game again this year and the seats were some of the best I have had at Raley Field. We were in the second row behind the visiting dugout and the food and the atmosphere were just awesome.
I also started this blog. A friend of mine suggested I give it a try since I wasn’t writing anymore for my college newspaper after a falling out. I’ve done so and it started out as one thing and has become something else. It’s a lot of fun to do and I am thankful for all who have been following what I’ve been writing. I hope you guys continue to in the new year, I’ve got much planned.
I also got to go see the soon to be World Champion San Francisco Giants with my friend Adam. It was my first game since 2007 and I was ecstatic. We got to see batting practice (which is way cool by the way, if you go to a game, go see batting practice, it’s so awesome!) and Adam got a ball from Jeremy Affeldt. That alone made his experience enjoyable. Pat Burrell hit a three run homer to give the Giants the 3-2 victory that night. As we were leaving with everyone chanting “Let’s Go GIANTS!” and strangers giving me high fives, I just felt like this season was going to end in great fashion. I’m glad to know I was right to think that.
Along the way this year as always, I’ve met some really cool people. I never get tired of meeting new people and ending up calling them my friends. I also let the color orange back into my world as the favorite color. I was asked by a friend of mine why I like the color and I explained it simply like this:
“I’ve long felt that the color orange has been underrated and unloved. There were times in my life where I didn’t always feel like I was loved or appreciated. In a way, orange and I have long been alike.”
In the time since, I have acquired a lot of clothes and shoes in that color. I also have an orange toothbrush. My friends even associate that color with me. My plan worked.
Though with all the positives in my life, many negatives are still there. I’m not nearly the person I want to be yet, but I am pleased with the journey I’ve taken here in 2010. I’m very excited to see what 2011 has in store for me and the people I know and love. I feel like 2011 will be one of the ones to remember, I hope you do, too.
Thanks for reading this the debut year of the Sports Geek blog, we’ll have more to talk about in the next year and I hope you stay tuned! Beautiful, man!
