For the first time since 1998,the New York Jets will be in new uniforms when they take the field this coming season. Gone are the classic dark green and white uniforms and in is a set of uniforms inspired by two different looks the team has had in their history.
The helmet, formerly white with green stripes going down the middle of it and a green facemask is now green, much like it was from 1978-97 with a black facemask. On the side is a partial Jets logo.
The home uniform consists of a green jersey,a shade which the team has nicknamed “Gotham Green” with two white stripes on the sleeves of the jersey, the city name on the front of the jersey and white numerals with bordered in black. The pants are white with green stripes going down the side.
The away uniform consists of a white jersey with green stripes on the sleeves, the city name on the front and green numerals with black borders. The away set, along with the home white pants, also have an alternate green pair of pants with white stripes on the sides.
There is an alternate uniform in the color of “Stealth Black” with a black jersey with
green stripes on the sleeves, the city name on the front of the jersey with white numerals bordered in green. The pants are also black with green stripes down the side.
The logo is a slight alteration of the one used from 1998-2018,the city name joins the logo and the J in Jets is now the same size as the other letters.
“Our new uniforms are built to perform on the world’s biggest stage and are inspired by the toughness, grit, and resilience of the New York City area”, Jets team president Neil Glatt said at the unveiling. “They are designed to be both modern and innovative, and representative of our aspirations both on and off the field”.
I honestly didn’t think this was a necessary uniform change at all. The Jets had a pretty decent, classic uniform for the last 20 years that harkened back to their glory years of the 1960s and 1970s. I understand the team wanted to bring in a new era and spice things up with their look, but they could’ve done that with their current set a little bit with a few tweaks with the colors. Perhaps maybe bringing the brighter green to their old uniforms instead of the darker green. I think that may have been better. I do like the green helmet and how it sparkles an shines, but overall,I think these uniforms are a bit overkill.
