Odds & Ends-Volume 49

KingsInterest in the Sacramento Kings has not been this high in over a decade. So why the hell are they not on television during the preseason?

Thursday night, the Kings took on the Suns at Sleep Train Arena and while just about everyone was watching Seahawks-Cardinals, I would have loved to have watched this game instead to see how they are looking so far before regular season action begins and the game was nowhere to be found.

I commented about this on the Kings Facebook page and got this response:

“Please tune-in to CSNCA on Oct. 23 to catch the Kings take on the Warriors. Kings will televise all 82 regular season contests. Thank you!”

While that is great that a preseason game is going to actually be televised, it is not enough for me. For test patternone, that is almost a week away, and secondly, its against the Warriors, a team I have already seen this preseason and already know how good they will be. How about showing me the next preseason game?

When fans cannot make it to games, you televise them. There is no excuse in this world where we all have 900 channels now where games not being televised should be allowed. I know, its only an exhibition game, but it is one I want to see for a change.

ClipperBanners

As much as I hate how many titles the Lakers have won in their existence (16), I think it is pretty disrespectful of the other team that plays in that building, the Clippers, to cover them up during their home games with pictures of their players. The project was the idea of new head coach Doc Rivers.

One member of the Lakers is not very happy about it.

“He can do that?” Young said after Lakers practice Sunday, the team’s first since returning from China. “For real? That’s disrespectful. We got to talk to Doc. He can’t have that. We got to do something about that.”

The new Clippers’ banners were revealed during Friday’s preseason game.

“Listen, I think this is our arena when we play,” Rivers told the Los Angeles Times. “So I just thought it would be good that we show our guys. No disrespect to them (the Lakers). But when we play, it’s the Clippers’ arena as far as I know.”

The Clippers have yet to hang up a championship banner of their own or even retire a number in their 44 years of existence, but have no problem covering up the success of the Lakers. I know the Clippers want to make their presence known during home games, but there are other ways to go about it. How about winning your own championships?

The reason I feel it is a bit disrespectful is because you don’t see other teams who share arenas doing this. Do the Boston Celtics hide the Boston Bruins’ accomplishments when they play? Or the Knicks with the Rangers? Or the 76ers with the Flyers? I don’t think so.

2013WSLogoIt has been a banner year for the Boston Red Sox and now they have a chance to add another one of those to their collection as they face the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series.

I have to give kudos to the Red Sox. Last year was such a disaster with Bobby Valentine as their manager and with the overhauling of players like Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez to Los Angeles, I knew that they would improve under John Farrell, but not to this extent. He has definitely been the difference maker for the Red Sox and they became the team they used to be before 2012 and now they are back in the World Series for the first time since 2007.

I have no idea who is going to win the World Series, but I do know this, it is going to be a very good series with two outstanding teams. Good luck to both of them!

If any team goes 0-16 this year,my vote goes to none other than the Jacksonville Jaguars. From the lack of a quarterback to the lack of a fan base to the lack of a good looking uniform, the Jaguars have all the qualities you would want in an 0-16 squad.Jaguars

Jacksonville is currently 0-7 with the chance to go 0-8 coming this weekend against the 49ers across the pond at London’s Wembley Stadium. The Jaguars have lost all seven of their games by double digits and were recently a 27 point underdog against the Denver Broncos, though to their credit, they did not lose by that much.

This team needs major help, I think they will get the first overall pick and I hope they spend that pick on Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. He would look great in that awful uniform!
