As many basketball fans know, after 35 years, the New Jersey Nets are leaving the Garden State and heading to Brooklyn into the Barclays Center. They also appear to be leaving their old colors behind as well that the club has had their entire history. Most teams when moving into a new facility or getting a fresh start elsewhere do change their logo and/or colors and the Nets are no different. I didn’t, however, expect them to change their colors to black and white.
They have two official logos and they’re absolutely…boring. Black and white? Really? This is it?
Apparently the inspiration for the logos was the old New York subway signage system, I think Oreo cookies and 1950s television may have also played a part in the inspiration for them as well.
“The Brooklyn Nets logos are another step we’ve made to usher the organization into a new era,” Jay-Z said in a statement. “The boldness of the designs demonstrate the confidence we have in our new direction. Along with our move to Brooklyn and a state-of-the-art arena, the new colors and logos are examples of our commitment to update and refine all aspects of the team.”
Boldness? Jay-Z,give me a break! Not only are they not bold, but they also lack any effort from anyone to make them any decent. There are people who have made concept drawings on their Microsoft paint program to post on logo boards like Uni Watch who have made better efforts than whoever the Nets hired to do their logo. This is pretty sad because the Nets have had better logos in the past and even cooler uniforms. I was hoping they would go back to the future with their red, white, and blue colors somehow, but I guess they wanted their look to be as boring and generic as possible. I don’t see these lasting long and when the uniforms come out in the fall, look for those to be boring as well (I may surprisingly be wrong, but I am doubtful of that).
Brooklyn Nets, you’re pathetic and should be very ashamed of yourselves. Go back to the damn drawing board and don’t come out until you come out with something colorful!
This doesn’t even get a Thumbs Down, more like a Double Facepalm!
