Reviewing the New Jacksonville Jaguars’ Uniforms (2018 Edition)

JagsUnisI added the 2018 edition in parentheses because we’ve done this before with the Jaguars and we’re doing it again as the team that was so close to reaching the Super Bowl last year hopes to try to do it again, but in new uniforms.

Gone are the two-colored gold and black helmet (Thank goodness!) and in its place a solid black helmet with the logo on each side. The team originally wore a black helmet up until 2013. The helmet will have 3-d lettering on the front and back bumpers with the front reading JAX and the back reading JAGUARS in teal.

The team will have a primary home set in black with the black jerseys and white numerals. A single stripe around each sleeve of the jersey and the collar is in teal. The road jersey is white with black numerals with a single stripe of black around the sleeves of the jersey and the collar. The alternate jersey is teal with white numerals and black stripes around the sleeves and the collar. The jerseys each have the Jaguars’ logo on the left breast of the jersey. JagsUnis18.png

The pants are all teal, black, and white in color with no striping or anything on them and can be mixed and matched with different jerseys.

“I wanted to see the return of tradition, I wanted to see the distinctiveness, I wanted the shiny black helmet with a beautiful Jaguars logo,” said Jaguars Executive Vice President of Football Operations Tom Coughlin in the official release. “I wanted to be represented that way. Just exactly how I’ve explained it: the classic Jaguar uniform. To a player, the uniform means everything. Because when you put that uniform on you not only represent your franchise, your team, your community; you represent your family. You represent your parents, your wife, your children, everything packed into one because your name is on the back of that uniform.”

I gotta say that while I like the black helmet returning, these uniforms are absolutely lacking a lot in terms of creativity and a good look overall. There isn’t much striping or any style to the numerals of the jerseys and the uniforms look like they could use some of that to make them pop a little more. These honestly look like practice uniforms and like the team decided to strip their uniforms of as much imagination as possible. It’s almost like they just created a basic uniform in Microsoft paint and called it a day. I think that while a uniform overhaul was by all means due, they made them way too basic and made me wanting more as a sports uniform fan.

Thumbs Way Down!
