Reviewing the New Cleveland Browns Uniforms

BrownsUnisOn Tuesday, the Cleveland Browns unveiled new uniforms for the first time in about a half century. The team brought out not one,not two,not even three, but nine different combinations for their uniforms,as promised by safety Donte Whitner.

One thing that’s different about the uniforms is the city name on the front of the team’s jerseys.

From the Browns’ press release: The idea to stitch a big, bold “CLEVELAND” on the front of the jersey came along early in the process, Conahan said. The group toyed around with enlarging “Browns” or even placing “DAWG POUND” across the chest.

Ultimately, stretching the city’s name in such a fashion that hasn’t been done by any other NFL team “felt right,” Browns president Alec Scheiner said.

“We talked a lot about how important Cleveland is for the Browns,” Scheiner said. “When the team left, the city’s heart was broken. It wasn’t fair. The team never should have left here. I think it’s a tribute to the city that we put it across the chest instead of the team name.”

The team also has their name on the side of the pants.

The primary jersey remains the team’s signature seal brown color with orange and white sleeve stripes and orange numerals on the shoulders and the front and back of the jersey. The numerals have white shadows on them. Also featured is the Cleveland wordmark in orange.

The away jersey is white with the brown Cleveland wordmark, brown and orange sleeve stripes and orange numerals with a brown shadow on them. The alternate jersey is orange with the white Cleveland wordmark, brown and white sleeve stripes, and white numerals with brown shadows.

Many people on fan forums have been highly critical of these uniforms, saying the team fixed what wasn’t broken with their previous uniforms. While I understand all of that, I think these uniforms are alright. I think it doesn’t stray too far from their past look and while I’m not crazy about the wordmark on the sides of the pants, I think the Browns did a good job keeping their uniforms simple and traditional while looking for a new look at the same time.

Good job,Browns, now try and win some games for once!

Thumbs Up!
